One of the most famous dinosaur fossils is named Sue. Sue is a
Tyrannosaurus rex
. When Sue died, about 66 million years ago, she might
have fallen into a swamp. Soon after that, she was completely buried in
mud. Over a period of thousands of years, her bones were replaced with
minerals. As the mud around her turned into
sedimentary rock
, her
bones became
petrified
, and turned into stone.
