Other engineers design water-efficient toilets, faucets, and showerheads
that use less water.
When you designed a waterwheel in class, you were doing the
work of an engineer. There are many types of engineers. Mechanical
engineers develop machines, tools, and equipment. Electrical engineers
design circuits to power devices and the components to generate and
deliver power. Civil engineers work to improve the living and working
environment. They work on highways, bridges, and water and sewage
systems. Materials engineers develop new materials that can be used
to construct new products. Engineering is a creative process. The main
job of engineers is to design products, processes, or systems to meet the
needs of people.
